The right Figma course can help you showcase your web design skills.

Whether you’re a beginner looking for introduction or a seasoned designer taking your skillset to the next level, Figma courses offer a wide range of learning experiences.

This article sheds light on the benefits of taking Figma courses to enhance your design skills.

Although Figma itself doesn’t offer certification, many respected platforms do.

I’ll also recommend a few Figma courses suitable for different expertise levels. Some of them are free and some other offer a Figma certification.

So let’s dive in!

How a Figma Course Could Elevate Your Design Skills

Let’s start by going over some of the benefits of taking Figma courses regularly.

1. Choose the Right Figma Course for You

So far, there’s no Figma course with certificate offered by Figma. However, there’s a bunch of respected platforms that offer a variety of Figma courses and some include certification.

If you’re not sure where to start, go to websites like Udemy, Coursera or Skillshare and see what they offer. You can also browse all the Figma courses available on Envato Tuts+ Youtube channel

Before enrolling, ask yourself these questions:

  • What specific UX design skills do I want to learn or improve upon?
  • Is the course aligned with my learning goals?
  • Who’s the instructor, and what’s their experience with Figma?
  • Do I prefer self-paced learning, live sessions, or both?
  • Does the course offer practical exercises and real-world projects?

Learn all you can about the Figma course you choose.

Make sure the learning style is suited to your needs and goals align to what you want to achieve.

2. You’ll Get Hands-On Experience

Working with real-world projects is a great way to get your head in the game. As design professionals, sometimes we need to take on projects that aren’t portfolio worthy, but that pay the bills.

Instead of waiting for the perfect project to come your way to showcase your skills, a Figma course can give you that. Plus, some Figma courses include feedback on your designs and instructor’s support throughout the process.

For example, let’s say you want to showcase projects what show you work with Webflow. You can follow this free tutorial on How to Use the Figma to Webflow Plugin and add the resulting project to your portfolio.

3. Add New Projects for Your Portfolio

Following up on the previous point, working on new projects is key to keep your portfolio fresh and relevant.

The best way to showcase your Figma skills is with a strong portfolio of your work. In some cases a well-presented portfolio can be as influential, if not more so, than a Figma certification.

As Marshall McLuhan said, the medium is the message, so why not present your portfolio with Figma? This way you kill two birds with one stone by presenting your work while showcasing your skills.

4. Certifications Can Give You Credibility

Luckily today we don’t have to go to prestigious universities to get certifications or learn new skills.

Are you low on budget? Try and make your own Figma certification for free by following some of the Figma tutorials available online.

As a graphic design student back in 2013 nobody warned me of the importance to keep your software skillset updated. Relying on what you learned back then will only get you so far.

For me, writing Figma tutorials has helped me stay updated with the software and web design trends.

Here are some ideas that can work for you:
